Tobago
is only 25 miles long and 8 miles wide but, in spite of its size,
it offers a wealth of landscapes, scenery and vistas to be enjoyed
and explored. It also offers a wide variety of activities for the
more restless or sporting holidaymaker.
This beautiful unspoilt Island of Tobago is surrounded by deserted
sandy beaches, which are all easy to get to. The north-eastern and
central parts of the Island are mostly tropical rainforest with many
different birds, butterflies and exotic flowers and wonderful waterfalls.
Close to the shores there are colourful coral reefs ideal for snorkelling
and world renowned diving sites. The stronger Atlantic winds and seas
wash the eastern coast. |

This
is where the waters can come crashing in and where Whales and Manta
rays can be found on their migratory routes. The Caribbean coast
is famed for its numerous sites for nesting turtles.
Tobago has an interesting history dating back to the Karawak Indians.
It has been governed, and fought over, by the British and French
since the late 17th century, hence the familiarity of the names
of towns and villages. It is now, with Trinidad, its bigger neighbour,
an independent country and a member of the Commonwealth. |

The pace of life is very laid-back and the people are the friendliest
you could meet anywhere in the Caribbean. The national past-time is
liming. (Relaxing with a cool beer and a few friends).
As a tourist you will be made most welcome everywhere around the Island
and it is safe to walk about, both by day and night.
Car hire is not expensive and the roads are easy
to cope with. They drive on the left too. Be prepared for lots of
adventure though, as the sign-posting may not be what you are used
to. We can organise car hire locally on your behalf and it will be
waiting for you on arrival at Crown Point airport.
The weather is wonderful all year round with temperatures around 30oC
cooled by the gentle Caribbean breeze. The rainy season runs from
June to October when rain seems to fall in intermittent showers with
sun and blue sky in-between. The driest months are from December to
May. |

For
the sports person the island can offer two of the very best of championship
golf courses at Mount Irvine and Tobago Plantations.
There are numerous Dive centre's where the less adventurous can just
go snorkelling. There are marinas and sailing clubs
around the island and some very pretty inlets and sheltered coves
in which to drop anchor for a relaxing afternoon. |
